Welcome to Mia Park's Bright & Beautiful Newsletter Communicating The Highest Good January News Happy Lunar Year of the Dragon! Like the dragon's fiery breath, I'm burning what no longer serves me to bring out my best. What are you doing to transform in 2012? Global News I like this group that fights poverty: ONE Amnesty International always rocks. They fight against child sex trade and investigate the case of Mao Hengfeng, a Chinese human rights defender released from prison unexpectedly in a wheelchair and severely beaten. Have you read the book that will change your life, yet? What are you waiting for? Read about it here and get ready for positive and real change. The exercises in this book are challenging and inspirational. Read my interview with Rod Strykerabout facing your "shadow side" in The Four Desires process in YOGAChicago Magazine. Korean New Year Soup Recipe 떡국! I LOVE rice cake soup, especially on New Year's Day. It's not too late to enjoy this gluten free, vegan optional soup. A great recipe is here. Yum! Use soy sauce instead of beef broth or fish sauce to veg out. Don't use too much or the broth will be too dark! Each rice cake represents one more healthy year of life. Local News Here's to your health and wellness in 2012! Here are local healthy ideas that I love: Chicago School of Thai Massage offers Vippassana Meditation and Thai Massage classes every Monday. I'll be there next week. Moksha Yoga studios offer classes and workshops in all styles and theories of yoga. Start on your yoga path. Why wait? Healthy restaurants in town are listedhere. It's so awesome to have choices of gluten free, vegan, organic and HEALTHY foods. I remember eating a Gino Giant hamburger at my local fast food Gino's in Philly. One day, I bit into a hard bone marrow and haven't had beef ever since. Shiver. Use your intelligence to guide your gut. And eat lots of ginger, especially now! And finally...my new band, Asian Girl Army, seeks guitarists. Asian women preferred! Email me with leads and interests. Rock on. And finally finally...RIP to my lovely kitty, Zero, who I hung out with 13 years. Jaw cancer got him last month. Thanks for the mew mew memories, Zero Kitty! I miss him. And, as always... I'm thrilled and honored to be rocking the front page. Many thanks to Sharon Steffensen for honoring me this way. I feel like this is a Mia Park centric issue. I'm on the cover & am featured teacher. My interview with my beloved teacher, Rod Stryker, is in this issue, as well as a photo of me describing how to do a posture. I'm a little embarrassed at all the attention...and I also love it. Balance, right? I feel pressure to keep up this blog since more people may be reading it! I'm on it. More yoga thoughts, soon. Happy New Year! It's so hard for me to keep a blog more than once every few weeks. Ah, so it is.
I had an incredible year, I'm also thinking of the great year ahead. This year is ending in a grounding way, though. I found out that I have "leaky gut syndrome" and am dealing with lots of supplements, medical professionals and mindfulness. I've always said that injuries are the universes way to slow us down. So, now it's my turn to ease the pace. I'll have a new supplement routine to follow and look forward to optimal health! All the best for you, for me, for every living being. Good guts for all! Here's to slowing down to enjoy EVERYTHING. Even a leaky gut. Peace. Please do look at this in your browser to see the cute meditating santa! Email not displaying correctly? View it in your browser. Here are two lessons I'd love for him to learn in his long and glorious life. This blog talks about regrets of the dying. They have regrets like wishing they didn't work so hard, they said what they felt more, they stayed in touch with their friends. Read this great blog entry for more lessons we can all learn. My good friend Paul Hnatiw told me about a great meditation that transforms wealth consciousness. Nephew Maddox should learn this. Shifting from a greed/hoarding mentality to a realization that money is just a form of energy that must flow freely. Think of money as thank you notes and be grateful every time you give or receive it (even bills and taxes). If there is gratitude greed cannot exist. Than sending that energy into the Earth, Wall Street, and governments around the world! There are many lessons I want Maddox to learn, lessons that I need to re-learn, myself. I plan to stick by his side on our respective paths towards self understanding in this life. Here I am MCing for KAN-WIN, my fave women's advocacy group. I am honored to annually host their fund raiser. This was back in October. It's now December - where did the time go?! Life keeps flowing, how am I engaging with it? I have so much online work to do. So many yoga classes to teach. And I compulsively organize events. Dinners with friends, benefit rock shows, MedMobs, producing a play for my theater company, A-Squared Theatre Workshop for next May, and more and more and more. I create a world wind of activity. I grew up in chaos and am used to frenetic energy. I use this compulsion of activity for the powers of good, or I try to. Somedays I let my activities come before my meditation practice, which is not right. In order for me to stay grounded to MC events, organize events, and perform at events, I need to create a grand stand of an event inside my soul. I need to sit quietly, make time for my inner self and go inwards. This is how I can engage with the flowing and going outside world, by grounding my internal world. Ready? Set? Go...inwards! Let the world flow and go! I'm ready. Wow, so much has happened in 8 days since my last post. But this is how I do. I live a very full life communicating the highest good and it sure keeps me busy! I organized a successful Chicago MedMob on 11/11/11. About 75 people sat outdoors in Water Tower Park in downtown Chicago for 40 minutes. It was AWESOME. Next medmob in Chicago is 12/9/11. More info on my homepage. Then last night I organized and played in this benefit rock show for Primo Center for Women and Children, a homeless shelter on the West Side. We raised $1600 in cash and goods for the center...and we had a BLAST. Doing good can be so fun. I've been working on my dharma code and these two events I organized and participated in fall right into place with my code: I am a spiritual force communicating the highest good. I think I accomplished this these last 8 days. Whew...yoga is life. A good old time, too! Hi! Do check out this newsletter online so you can see the very cool photos. Thanks! We will peacefully gather in Water Tower Park and quietly meditate for 30 minutes, then chant one continuous sound for 10-15 minutes (read below). This event is outdoors. Dress appropriately for the weather. If it rains, snows, storms or shines - we will sit. We will ring a gong bowl at 5:30 and again at 6PM. We invite you to join us for all of it, part of it, or come to hang out and bask in the peace. We invite you to come with your own deepest intention for yourself, your community, & our planet. There are plenty of benches to sit on in case sitting on the ground is difficult for you. The meditation is a simple, 30 minute, silent meditation followed by a "Sound Bath.” Feel free to say Om, Ong, God, Allah, Ma, Yeah, or any other sound or mantra that resonates deeply within yourself. This part of the MedMob is super fun, impactful, and sounds amazing! MedMob is a Global Flash Mob Mediation Movement unifying to expand positivity to every walk of life. Every meditator comes with their own deepest intention for themselves, their community, and the world. MedMobs happen in highly visible places with the intention of exposing and inviting the world to the benefits of meditation and collective prayer. The collective unification of intent and prayer has been proven by numerous studies to increase personal health and lower crime in big cities. Now imagine the entire world meditating together! This is MedMob's vision. We're sitting on 11/11/11 in honor of the Himalayan Institute's launch of their year long meditation. |
