I strive to constantly learn. Truly, I learn the most from difficult situations and am grateful for the people in my life who create those situations with me and for my community who support me as I learn and grow through them.
I currently study Yang style daoist taiji with Timothy Suh in the lineage of Chang Men-Ching, Huang Sheng Shyan and Patrick Kelly. Taiji is a very subtle, powerful practice that elevates my awareness. I'm learning so much and love this practice.
I have studied and practiced yoga since 2002 and have taken dozens of teacher trainings and workshops, totaling over 1500 hours. I am fortunate to have studied with very special people. I learned Sanskrit, Chinese tantric techniques, Ayurveda, and Vedic philosophy from Jim Kulackoski at Darshan Center. I am initiated into the tantric lineage of Sri Vidya with Pandit Rajmani Tigunait, Ph.D. and Rod Stryker. I learned techniques from the Desikchar tradition from Gary Kraftsow and Chase Bossart. In the Iyengar/alignment tradition, I've studied with Aadil Palkhivala, Gabrielle Halpern and Barbara Benagh. I've learned from the great Dr. Robert Svoboda and Nicholai Bachman is another Ayureda teacher I've studied with and learned Sanskrit from. I've learned when to apply appropriate force in yoga from Ana Forrest, when to soften and think from Swami Shankardev, and when to laugh from Dharma Mittra and Mark Whitwell. Through my constant studying, the most important lesson I've learned is that my main teacher is my highest self.
Below are important teachers listed in alphabetical order. Thank you for also being my teacher.
Patrick has practiced Taiji & meditation for over 40 years within the Daoist, Yogi & Sufi traditions, giving a depth & breadth of experience rarely seen in the modern world. He was the only non-Chinese inner-school student of Huang Xingxian, one of the most accomplished Taiji masters of recent times.
Patrick employs modern didactics to present traditional internal training, with refined explanations of inner principles & dynamics. He has a world network of more then 100 instructors teaching some thousands of students. He is the author of 4 books on Taiji & meditation, available in English, French, German, Italian, Chinese.
Gary is a great teacher. His depth and breadth of knowledge of yoga is vast, as is his experience as a practitioner and teacher for almost forty years. Learning from him is truly an enlightening and educational experience. I met Gary at Himalayan Institute about ten years ago and I still practice and teach techniques I learned from him then. Every time I study with Gary, I feel elevated as a practitioner and empowered as a teacher. Studying with Gary Kraftsow is mandatory for students seeking authentic yoga.
Judith has taught yoga since 1971 and holds a doctorate in East-West psychology and is a physical therapist. I am a certified a Rest and Renew teacher through her teachings. Judith is a role model to me about how to be direct and kind. She also offers the best quotable one liners.
Pandit Rajmani Tigunait
Panditji is the spiritual leader of Himalayan Institute, the ashram I frequented for years. I've learned about tantric studies from him in the USA and also in India. He's an academic scholar and a deep practitioner. He's also incredibly humble and kind, a true teacher and master.
Yoli is my Tantra for Women teacher. She's a wise and learned yogini, explaining the universe in a way that I resonate with. From her website: "I have dedicated my life to the realms of Yoga, Vajrayana Tantra, Native American Philosophy, Healing Arts, Experiential Education and Travel/Adventure."
