Here I am with my teacher, Rod Stryker in Colorado.

ParaYoga is dedicated to sharing the essence of these timeless teachings in ways that enhance all aspects of modern life. Through classes, workshops, retreats, and an ever-expanding list of Dedicated and Certified Teachers, ParaYoga is helping to reshape and enrich the way people practice.

Welcome to the ParaYoga website. Its aim is to inform, teach and enrich you, as well as, be a valuable resource to support our ever-expanding community of practitioners and teachers.

We are committed to contributing individuals' growth and happiness, thereby fulfilling our intention to support Yoga's continued evolution, as well as, the betterment of life throughout the world.

“Para” means supreme, ancient, highest, the culmination of all effort. ParaYoga offers students of all levels access to the entire range and sacred power of Yoga. ParaYoga is based on the Six Gems©, ancient teachings that unlock “supreme” accomplishment in practice and life.

The authoritative ancient texts of the Hatha Yoga tradition (like the “Hatha Yoga Pradipika” and “Gherand Samahita “) describe Yoga as a journey that culminates in sublime success and happiness. These teachings describe how through perfection of body, breath, mind, and spirit we access it.  When understood and practiced accordingly, practice become “Para” (the supreme, highest, or the place where our very best efforts culminate).

The texts are very clear. Yoga includes all of the following: Asana, Pranayama, Bandha, Mudra, Visualization, Meditation, Chanting, Kriya, Mantra, Kundalini, along with a vast array of other practices. Most of us have heard about these techniques, perhaps we may have even experienced some of them. However, it's difficult to find a single style of Yoga today in which all of these techniques are offered or taught seamlessly as a whole. But that is exactly what ParaYoga is all about.

More and more students are finding that not only are the techniques "other than Asana" accessible, in the hands of a knowledgeable ParaYoga teacher, they link one to the very heart and true power of Yoga's potential. That's the eye-opening experience that ParaYoga provides. Suffice it to say: experience leads to understanding.

Whether you're taking a class, workshop, or a ParaYoga Master Training, whether you're a new student or a Certified Teacher in another system, you'll see how the practice of ParaYoga is, what is known in the tradition as, Para (supreme, highest, or the place where our very best efforts culminate).

The first time you practice ParaYoga, you might be surprised. Much of the class might feel a lot like classes you've experienced before––featuring a particularly vibrant and satisfying Asana practice. It may not initially be apparent that the practice you're doing is rooted in ancient science.

Kumbha Mela 2013

This is the pilgrimage of a lifetime! I'm so happy I attended. When I can wrap my mind around what I experienced, I'll write more about it.

Celebrated every 12 years for millennia, the Kumbha Mela is the largest spiritual gathering on the planet. Pilgrims, saints, sages, sadhus, and yogis belonging to many different paths and traditions come to the Kumbha Mela to share their knowledge and wisdom, to intensify their own practice, and to walk together on their spiritual journey. Tens of millions gather at the bank of the river Ganga (Ganges) at a time when the planets, constellations, and other celestial bodies are perfectly aligned, creating a powerful vortex of spiritual energy. This energy is further intensified by the collective consciousness of the saints, sages, and pilgrims who gather here with a single shared intention: inner healing and lasting change.

I traveled with the Himalayan Institute. I'm not normally a travel group kind of gal, but I totally trusted their facilities and needed their guidance in this largest gathering of human beings on the planet.

I was also honored to teach a yoga nidra class at the Himalayan Institute campus during our Kumbha Mela journey.
