Now what? The world is even more on fire and we're already emotionally exhausted. Times are intense. The ripple effects of current affairs is inescapable. The only way to get through right now and sustain the journey is to practice deep self care. Can you change your habits and manage your time to take care of yourself, first?
If you're resisting political "shock events", please take time to breathe deeply. If you've got a house filled with noro virus kids, please get extra sleep. If you're worried about getting deported, please make silent time to reflect.
I realize that pausing in the middle of a crises to meditate or sleep seems counterproductive. However, taking care of you, first, is the single most effective way to fight your mighty battle. Think of an oxygen mask on your face before others. Imagine how much more effective you'll be when rested and calm. You will nurture others better when you nurture yourself, first.
Every soul has its own journey. Yes, we must stand together. Yes, we must unite against oppression and the unjust. And when each individual solider is strong and stable, the army is that much stronger.
If you want to be in it to win it, join me in practicing radical self care. Say "no" to that extra drink while you're saying "no" to the ban on muslims. Say "yes" to staying in to relax as you say "yes" to protesting. Changing the world starts with you. Let's take care of ourselves, together.
